The latest generation of low-density flexible aerogel blankets (2024–2025) can reach 0.012–0.014 W/(m·K). Vacuumed aerogel panels, such as VIP core materials from Hebei Woqin, can achieve an astonishing 0.002–0.005 W/(m·K).
Aerogel coatings: Conventional silicone aerogel coatings (density ~0.05–0.15 g/cm³) have thermal conductivity of 0.015–0.025 W/(m·K). Commercial composite aerogel coatings, such as those from Cabot, Aspen, and Hebei Woqin, range from 0.018–0.035 W/(m·K) depending on aerogel content. Ultra-thin coatings (<1 mm), often used in electronics, can reach 0.012–0.018 W/(m·K), with even lower values under vacuum or low-pressure conditions.
Aerogel insulation can withstand extreme temperatures, depending on the type and formulation. Silica-based aerogel blankets typically operate in a range from -200℃ to 650℃, with specific grades offering tailored limits for specialized applications. This wide temperature tolerance, combined with hydrophobic properties in some grades, extends their usability in harsh environments.
Although aerogel materials have a higher initial cost compared to conventional insulation such as fiberglass, foam, or mineral wool, their superior performance delivers long-term benefits:

Aerogel coatings enhance insulation by embedding aerogel particles in a binder matrix. These particles form millions of microscopic air pockets, creating a barrier that dramatically reduces heat transfer through conduction and convection. Coatings are particularly useful in industrial applications, electronics, and areas where adding bulk insulation is impractical.
While the upfront cost of aerogel products is higher than traditional insulation, their energy savings, space efficiency, and long lifespan often make them more cost-effective over the long term. In applications where reducing heat loss, lowering energy bills, and minimizing maintenance are critical, aerogel insulation can deliver superior value compared to conventional materials.
