We took an ordinary stainless steel cup, filled it to the brim with water straight off the boil (100°C), and applied only a thin layer of our high-performance aerogel thermal coating to the exterior surface. That’s it. No thick insulation jacket, no multi-layer wrap — just one coat of aerogel.
The result? You can hold the cup directly with bare hands for extended periods without feeling more than mild warmth. The surface stays cool enough to touch comfortably while the water inside remains piping hot.
Why does this work so well?
Aerogel is known as the world’s best solid insulator, with thermal conductivity as low as 0.013–0.018 W/m·K. It traps heat at the microscopic level, dramatically reducing heat transfer from the hot water through the metal wall to the outside. Even in a super-thin coating form, it creates an incredibly effective thermal barrier.
