The Impossible Triangle of Retrofits: Space, Thermal Performance, and Moisture
In the world of Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) and modular construction, architects and engineers constantly battle the "Impossible Triangle." To achieve a high thermal resistance (R-value), traditional materials like mineral wool or EPS require significant thickness, robbing valuable interior space.
We’ve all seen it: a beautiful retrofit project ruined by a bulky 50mm bump-out around the window reveal, or a historic room feeling claustrophobic after adding 100mm of internal insulation. Furthermore, achieving continuous insulation without triggering internal condensation and mold seems almost impossible in tight geometries.
At Hebei Woqin, we decided it was time to break the rules of conventional building physics. We are proud to introduce the Multi-Layer Aerogel Hybrid System—a fully customizable, ultra-thin structural envelope ranging from just 22mm to 47mm in total thickness.
Our hybrid system is not just an insulation board; it is a meticulously engineered moisture, fire, and thermal barrier.
Layer 1: The Thermal Core (10mm – 30mm Aerogel Blanket)The engine of the system is our high-performance Aerogel Blanket. Tested under GB/T 10295-2008, it boasts a thermal conductivity of just 0.020 W/(m·K) at 25°C. With a hydrophobicity rate of 99.7%, it physically repels liquid water while providing the highest R-value per inch of any commercial insulation.
Layer 2: The Moisture Shield (Aluminum Foil Vapor Barrier)While aerogel is hydrophobic, indoor humidity can still pose a threat to internal facing boards. To combat this, we integrated a high-strength aluminum foil layer directly over the aerogel. This acts as an absolute Vapor Barrier, completely cutting off the Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) and guaranteeing that the internal wall remains condensation-free, even in the dampest climates.
Layer 3: The Rigid Structure (12mm Gypsum / Calcium Silicate Board)To provide mechanical strength and a ready-to-decorate surface, a 12mm rigid board is laminated to the foil layer. This allows for fast, dry-lining installation techniques preferred by modern contractors.
Layer 4: The Seamless Armor (3-5mm Aerogel Coating)Even the best insulation boards suffer from thermal bridging at the joints and mechanical fixings. Our solution? A 3-5mm layer of Aerogel Thermal Coating applied over the surface. With a thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/(m·K) and a high bond strength of 1.1 MPa, this coating seamlessly seals all board joints and screw heads, eliminating the final 1% of thermal bridging.
(Note for Engineers: Each layer in this system is independently replaceable—so if a specific project needs a different vapor barrier, alternative facing board, or adjusted core thickness, we can adapt the manufacturing to your exact specifications.)
Extreme Space Adaptability: Achieve compliance in spaces where traditional materials simply cannot fit.
Ultimate Moisture Defense: The combination of hydrophobic aerogel and an aluminum vapor barrier protects buildings from interstitial condensation and mold—forever.
Zero Thermal Bridging: The continuous aerogel coating ensures a monolithic thermal envelope.
Triple A1 Fire Safety: From the aerogel blanket to the gypsum board and the surface coating (Total Combustion Calorific Value as low as 0.3 MJ/kg), the entire system achieves a Class A1 non-combustible rating, meeting the strictest global fire safety regulations.
By customizing the core thickness, this system tackles both standard and extreme scenarios:
Combo A: The "Standard" Wall (30mm Aerogel Core + 12mm Board + 5mm Coating = 47mm Total)
Internal Wall Insulation (IWI): Perfect for upgrading historic brick or stone buildings without losing precious floor space.
Modular & Prefabricated Homes: Drastically reduces wall thickness, allowing for more units per transport load and maximizing internal living space.
Combo B: The "Extreme Tight Space" Solution (10mm Aerogel Core + 12mm Board + 3mm Coating = 25mm Total)
Window & Door Reveals: Fits effortlessly into tight window returns (reveals) to prevent the notorious "green wall" mold around frames.
Behind Radiators: Slides easily behind heating units. Combined with the aluminum foil, it reflects heat back into the room rather than letting it escape through the external wall.
Stairwells & Lift Shafts: Meets strict fire regulations and maintains mandatory passage widths.
In modern retrofits, every millimeter holds immense financial value, and every instance of condensation can ruin a project. Don't let outdated, bulky insulation materials dictate your design limits.
